| Mother-Land | The author of the Mother-Land idea was famous soviet sculptor Eugeniy Vuchetich, indeed he died before he had time to realize his project. That why the construction of the monument was entrusted to kiever Vasiliy Boroday. As a consequence original project was significantly changed.
The statue is made of separate steel blocks-sections which are soldered together. Each section weighs 25-30 tones. The total weigh of the statue is 450 tones. In one hand woman helds 13 tone shield with USSR National Emblem and in the other 9 tone sword (10 meters lengthwise).
Mother-Land was opened in 1981 on the occasion of the Victory Day. According to specialist prognosis the statue should stand more than 150 years.
Mother-Land statue is the part of Great Patriotic War memorial. It covers the square over 20 hectares. Besides the Mother-Land statue there are Great Patriotic War museum, "eternal fire" cup, the city-hero alley, area of World War II military equipment, and a series of sculpture compositions which depicts the heroically fight of soviet people against fascist invaders. |
